During all his professional life, Novikov Georgy Andreevich has made academic-pedagogical work. Since 1987, he has been actively involved in scientific justification, organizational and methodical support and effective implementation of palliative medical care model to terminally ill patients to practical healthcare in subjects of the Russian Federation. The trend was based on thesis of G.A. Novikov for degree of Dr. Med titled: “Fundamental principles of palliative care to oncological patients with chronic pain” upheld in 1994 which was one of the first scientific works in this area.
Under his supervision, the scientific school was established, more than 30 theses have been upheld. Representatives of the scientific school by G.A. Novikov are actively involved in scientific, pedagogical and practical activities in palliative care.
Professor Novikov G.A. – a leading scientist, author of more than 300 scientific works which are mainly devoted to the most actual problems of palliative care. He actively presents reports at national and international congresses, congresses, conferences which are held with participation of leading specialists in palliative care.
In February 1999, G.A. Novikov took the lead in establishment of the first palliative care course in Russia at oncology chair at the Faculty of Postgraduate Professional Training of Physicians of the I.M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy, and in 2013, he took charge of first palliative care chair in Russia which was organized at the Faculty of Postgraduate Professional Training at the A.I.Evdokimov Moscow State Medical and Dental University.
In 1996, he established the first professional research and academic journal in the Russian Federation, “Palliative care and rehabilitation” which was included to the “List of the leading peer-reviewed journals and periodicals” recommended by the Higher Attestation Commission in which the main scientific results of theses for Ph.D and Candidate degree should be published.
In 2012, Novikov G.A. was appointed Chairman of the Board at the All-Russian Social Organization ”Russian Association of Palliative Care”.
